Anne:
I had a strong desire for sauce with some tender pork in it...like my Dad used to make for my sister and I. I am probably missing my Dad...
With apologies to my Shiney Peeps who already read this, I posted this today on the *Shine with Unschooling* list...it's just a VERY small snapshot of this unschooling life, which is filled with learning from living from joy (the learning is in the living is in the joy):
I was on my computer, taking a break from all of the work I've been doing today (doing it joyfully and with gratitude today, because I'm so happy to be *home* and it feels like a celebration of home and family and my most wonderful job of home-maker), and Jake came in from outside, where he was reading his new manga in the cool air and the sunshine on the deck.
I was deep into reading something and he asked, "Can I borrow your lap-top for just a minute? I don't want to turn mine on...I'll just be a minute."
MAN, I was reluctant! I was in MY flow!!
I said, "Yup...just a minute." He said, "But really, I'll only be a minute." I looked at him. And thankfully, I was able then to do my *shifting* thing from out of my head and into the moment, and I steered my computer toward him.
He asked if he could have my chair, but, come ON, child!!! That was just too much.
:)
He Wiki'ed *metatron*. I was looking at the site next to him, thinking, "Wow. That's some pretty deep stuff. I wonder what got him to look that up." (I would have asked him then, but I didn't want to interrupt his flow...)
I actually realized then that my blanket was finished in the washing machine, so I got up and we joked about how lucky he was that he got my chair just because I was doing laundry! I came back and he was still reading.
So I went out to the deck to let Choco out, and I saw Jake's new manga there. I didn't know if he had forgotten about it, or what...so I said, "Jake ~ you know your manga is outside?"
He said, "Yeah. I was reading it and loving it and I came across the word *metatron* and it was in the *His Dark Materials* trilogy, too...so I thought I'd better look it up!"
Then he showed me Wikipedia's reference to Alan Rickman in *Dogma*, a movie that Jake thoroughly enjoyed because it sparked so many conversations and research and expanded his world so much...
::sigh::
Have I mentioned lately that I absolutely LOVE this unschooling life of REAL LEARNING.
REAL LEARNING.
REAL.
You can't get much real-er than that.
Than this. Here. Now. What's happening in your home? It's real. It's life. It's learning. It's amazing. It's happening all of the time.
:)
I'm thankful I let Jake interrupt my own flow for his, because I can easily get back to my stuff...and yet I got to be a witness to my boy's amazing curiosity and interest and brilliance and all of those swirling connections that are flowing around in our lives every moment of every day...
Love it.
